Rockets 3 Bruins 1

Kyles St.Denis scored twice and Brady Leavold added a single as the Kelowna Rockets upended the Chilliwack Bruins by a score of 3-1 Wednesday night in Kelowna. Ryan Howse scored the loan goal for the Bruins who saw their two game win streak come to an end.

The Rockets opened the scoring early when St.Denis notched his ninth goal of the season on a wrap around from behind the net just 1:35 into the game. That was the only goal of the first period. Kelowna outshot Chilliwack by a margin of 7-4 in the opening twenty minutes.

Kelowna increased their lead to 3-0 with two goals in the second period. Brady Leavold scored his 13th goal of the season at the 4:23 mark before St.Denis struck again with this 10th of the season with just 1:29 left in the period. The Bruins were outshot 15-1 in the period.

Ryan Howse scored his third of the season at the 13:40 mark of the final period to close out the scoring.

Finals shots on goal were 30-15 in favor of Kelowna. Kristofer Westblom earned the victory for the Rockets who improved their season record to 25-13-2-4. Matt Esposito took the loss in goal for the Bruins despite being replaced by Mark Friesen after two periods of play. With the loss the Bruins record now stands at 20-18-3-1.

Both teams were shutout on the power play. Chilliwack had three opportunities with the man advantage while the Rockets had six including a full two minute two man advantage in the second period.

The Bruins next action will be Saturday when they travel to Kamloops to take on the Blazers. Game time is 7pm.

Ice Chips: Not in the lineup for the Bruins tonight were Partik Bhungal (leg injury), Oscar Moller, David Hoda, Cody Hobbs and Scott Ramsay...Randy McNaught and Matt Strong made their Bruins debut in this game...The Bruins skills competition will take place January 20th, more details to come later this week.
