Bruins Double Cougars

Ryan Howse, playing in his home town scored once and added an assist as the Bruins defeated the Prince George Cougars 4-2 in Prince George Wednesday night. The win puts the Bruins (25-24-3-4) in seventh place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of the eighth place Kamloops Blazers.

After a scoreless first period that saw the Bruins outshoot the Cougars 17-7, it was Bruins rookie forward Ryan Howse that opened the scoring at the 1:11 mark of the middle stanza. Howse now has nine goals on the season, seven since the Christmas break. Jadon Potter's ninth of the season, a shorthanded marker, put the Bruins up by two just under three minutes into the period. Randy McNaught's second of the season increased the Bruins lead to three at 14:07. The Cougars got on the board with a power play goal by Parker Stanfield late in the second.

Stanfield's second of the game, tenth of the season brought the home team to within one with 3:14 left in the third period but Liam Darragh's first goal of the season with 1:14 left iced the game for the Bruins.

Chilliwack finished the game 0/1 on the power play. Prince George was 1/5.

The Cougars outshot the Bruins 41-38. Matt Esposito picked up his 18th win of the season while Real Cyr took the loss for Prince George.

The Bruins next action is Friday when they travel south to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds. Chilliwack's next home game is Saturday February 16th when they host the Prince George Cougars.

Saskatoon leads the league with 81. Tri City has the fewest with 36.
