Busy Summer for Bruins Prospects

Bruins Associate Coach Dan Price will serve as assistant coach of Team Pacific at the World Under 17 Challenge

It has been a busy summer for Chilliwack Bruins’ prospects.  Eleven members of the organization including Associate Coach Dan Price are participating in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence this summer.

Price, a native of Calgary Alberta will serve as the assistant coach of Team Pacific at the 2009 World Under 17 Challenge to be held in Port Alberni BC beginning December 21st. Team Pacific will consist of 22 players, 11 from BC, and 11 from Alberta.

"I am proud and honoured to have been selected as a member of the Team Pacific coaching staff,” said Price. “I was immediately attracted to this program by the quality of the people involved in it and I am grateful to Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada for the opportunity to work with such an exceptional group.  I am excited to start collaborating with the athletes, coaches and administrators as we begin our journey toward the World U17 Hockey Challenge in Port Alberni."

“We’re very proud of Dan being selected to the coaching staff of Team Pacific," stated Bruins General Manager Darrell May. "The experience he gains through his involvement in the program of excellence will of benefit to him in his coaching career as well as our organization.

"Having our players participate in any of Hockey Canada’s high performance programs is great experience for them and a credit to their hard work and talent," continued May. "It is also a credit to our scouting staff to have our players identified as prospects to play at the international level.”

 

 

BC Hockey Under 17 Program

Bruins prospects Kevin Sundher, Dylan McKinlay and Trevor Cameron will be among the 48 players attending the BC Under 17 camp in Port Alberni beginning on July 21st. Eleven players from this camp will be selected to play for Team Pacific at the 2009 World U17 Challenge which will also be held in Port Alberni beginning December 29th.

Alberta Hockey Under 17 Program

Chris Collins, Tyler Stahl and Brock Maschmeyer were among the 46 players who recently attended Alberta’s Under 17 Camp in Calgary. Eleven players from Alberta will join eleven BC born players to make up Team Pacific at the 2009 Under 17 World Hockey Challenge.

Saskatchewan Hockey Sask First Program

 

Three Bruins prospects were among the 80 best 1992 and 1993 Saskatchewan born players who recently attended Saskatchewan Hockey’s Sask First Program. Carter Berg, Troy Murray and Kale Derkson participated in the camp which is used by Saskatchewan Hockey to determine which players will be selected to suit up for Team West at the 2009 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.

National Men’s Under 18 Program

Bruins forward Ryan Howse has been invited to try out for the National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at a camp in Calgary from August 1-6. 22 players from this camp will represent Canada at the 2008 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, scheduled for August 12-16 in the Czech Republic. Canada has won gold at the tournament three of the past four years. Howse was a member of Team Pacific at the 2008 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.
